The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive
An essential guide

By the end of 2005, all EU member states are required to have enacted legislation on enhanced minimum energy performance standards in buildings under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. All buildings, commercial and domestic, will need to have an energy performance certificate. In addition, there will be regular inspections of boiler and air conditioning systems.

To meet the demand for information on implementing the Directive, and following EC Inform-Energy's successful conference earlier in 2004, Newzeye has published The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive - an essential guide.

Designed to be used by senior decision-makers responsible for energy efficiency in buildings and facilities management, this full-colour guide describes how the Directive is being implemented in the UK.

"The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive will have profound business implications for all organisations involved in procuring, designing and managing buildings. In many respects the Directive will be much more far reaching than the proposed Part L Building Regulations revision in 2005 - there are major commercial risks and opportunities associated with the Directive - companies should be preparing strategic plans now. I welcome the timely publishing of this new Guide."
David Strong, Chairman of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive Implementation Advisory Group

Overview and contents

The Guide sets out how the new regulations will affect all those involved in the design, construction, operation and use of buildings. It will help them to understand how their business will be affected and how they can maximise opportunities arising from the changes.

Changes to Part L of the Building Regulations will implement most of the technical changes - we look at the proposals.
How will buildings be certified? What is the timescale - and the penalties for non-compliance? This practical guide answers these questions.
How will the new regulations affect HVAC systems? We examine the implications.
What will the impact be on architects and designers?
Refurbishment and upgrade projects will also be included in the regulations. We look at how projects are likely to be affected.
